Heer impresses at Africa Juniors

Heer Usadadiya had the ultimate preparations for the April 30 – May 3 Africa Junior Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

He went to the Australian Age Championships in mid-April and the Speedo National Preparation Meet in Brisbane in March.

In the 400m free in the long course competition in Cairo, Heer clocked 4:19.79 to rank 11th but more importantly to clock a new national record in the mid-distance event. His splits for every 50m ranged between 29.18 and 33.79 seconds to earn the feat.

In 100m back he split 32.32 and 32.89 to complete the race in 1:05.21.

He then combined with Peterson Inhensiko, Ian Aziku, and Pendo Kaumi to clock 3:56.38 in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay.

In 200m free, he clocked 2:03.36 missing his personal best by just over a second.

With splits ranging between 30.12 and 34.93, Heer clocked 9:02.86 in 800m free as he marginally missed his personal best by four microseconds.

He then combined with Pendo and female swimmers Charlotte Sanford and Tara Kisawuzi to make 4:04.50 in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay.

In tbe 200m backstroke, he made 2:16.51 in the final after qualifying as eigth swimmer with 2:18.29 from the preliminaries.

In the men’s 4x100m medley relay, he started the backstroke leg before handing over to Aziku as the quartet cumulatively clocked 4:19.44 to finish off their campaign in Cairo.
